CPM is has brought a class action lawsuit against Apple challenging Apple's use pirated authors' works for use in their Large Language Model in order to train their AI Research engine called "Apple Intelligence."  The Complaint alleges that Apple copied authors' works through direct downloading Books3.  Books3 is a database of books compiled without the authors' permission.  The complaint alleges that authors who have copyright registrations for their works, bring this action under the Copyright Act to address harm from Apple's willful infringement.  Apple downloaded pirated copies of their works, copied and stored these works, and used them to train its models to generate human-like text and images, which has and is displacing and diluting the market for Plaintiff’s works.
