CPM is investigating allegations of price-fixing in the semiconductor components market. Semiconductor component suppliers, Rambus Inc., Montage Technology Co., Ltd., and Renesas Electronics America Inc., have allegedly conspired to raise prices of certain memory interface chips, including registered clock drivers (RCDs) and data buffers, used in DDR5 Registered Dual In-line Memory Module (RDIMMs) and Load-Reduced DIMM (LRDIMMs). This conduct may have caused purchasers of RDIMMs and LRDIMMs containing RCDs and data buffers, such as server and data center customers, to pay more than they would have in the absence of a price-fixing conspiracy.

Allegations Under Investigation

Rambus is a leading global supplier of DDR5 RCDs and supplies 40% of such integrated circuit chips. Renesas and Montage together comprise the remainder of the global RCDs market. Similarly, Rambus, Renesas, and Montage are dominant in the DDR5 data buffers global market. Prices for both RCDs and data buffers (and, consequently, the DDR5 RDIMMs and LRDIMMs containing them) have skyrocketed in recent years.

In January 2026, news sources reported that the Antitrust Division of the United States Department of Justice, the U.S. Postal Service’s Office of Inspector General, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation had executed search warrants on the premises of Montage and Renesas. On April 28, 2026, Rambus disclosed in a Securities and Exchange Commission filing that it was subpoenaed by a U.S. federal grand jury as part of a criminal investigation into suspected price-fixing.

CPM’s investigation focuses on claims that Rambus, Montage, and Renesas colluded to raise prices for DDR5 RCDs and data buffers which, in turn, increased prices for the RDIMMs and LRDIMMs containing them, such as those used in enterprise servers, hyperscale data centers, AI training clusters, and custom PCs. Our investigation seeks to uncover the full scope of the alleged conduct and its economic impact on downstream purchasers of DDR5 RDIMMs and LRDIMMs containing the affected RCDs and data buffers.

Seeking Purchasers of DDR5 RDIMMs and LRDIMMs Containing RCDs and Data Buffers

CPM is seeking individuals or companies that purchased DDR5 RDIMMs and LRDIMMs containing RCDs and/or data buffers supplied by Rambus, Montage, or Renesas between January 1, 2022 and the present to be class representatives in a proposed antitrust class action against Rambus, Montage, and Renesas. Individuals or companies may have purchased such DDR5 RDIMMs and LRDIMMs from module manufacturers, such as Samsung, SK Hynix, Micron, or Kingston.

These individuals or companies would help CPM pursue a class action on behalf of affected purchasers in federal court. If you are interested in representing the class, please complete the form below. We welcome the opportunity to discuss your potential participation and recovery.
