Gabriel Beugelmans

Gabriel Beugelmans is a senior associate at Cotchett, Pitre & McCarthy, LLP’s Santa Monica office. At CPM, Gabriel brings his expertise in federal and state civil litigation to fight for victims of negligence and corporate wrongdoing. His practice includes aviation, products liability, mass torts, and consumer class actions.

A Los Angeles native, Gabriel is deeply committed to harnessing the law as a tool for advancing the cause of justice. In his spare time, he enjoys hiking, ocean swimming, playing basketball, and spending time with his wife and son.

Representative Matters

Prior to joining CPM, Gabriel worked as a plaintiff-side litigator for over eight years at Nelson & Fraenkel LLP in Los Angeles. He has represented hundreds of clients, from pilots and passengers to families of those killed in aviation disasters.

Gabriel has litigated numerous international cases governed by the Montreal Convention, and has appeared pro hac vice in state and federal courts across the country, including Arizona, Georgia, Kansas, and Texas.

• Franco v. Sec. Indus. Specialists, Inc., Case No. B304976 (Cal. App. Nov 02, 2021): Successfully appealed a summary judgment ruling holding that a landlord owed no duty to provide minimal security measures to prevent foreseeable third-party crime.

Civic

In law school, Gabriel volunteered with the non-profit Hawaii Appleseed Center for Law and Economic Justice. His work ultimately assisted the Hawaii state legislature in passing an Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) bill, which enabled thousands of Hawaiians to save more of their hard-earned income for their families.

Since 2024, Gabriel has served as a Volunteer Legislative Ambassador for the American Cancer Society (ACS) Cancer Action Network, where he advocates for improved laws at the local, state, and federal levels, including increased funding for cancer research and prevention programs.

In addition to his civil work, Gabriel is particularly interested in the 9/11 military commission proceedings at Guantanamo Bay (GTMO). As a member of the Pacific Council on International Policy, he personally attended a delegation to GTMO in 2020. Since then, he has presented on GTMO and published his legal analysis and observations. His work has been recognized and cited by leading organizations, including Human Rights Watch and the Watson Institute of International and Public Affairs at Brown University.
