CPM investigated and brought suit against Doxo, a 3rd party bill paying service. The complaint alleges that Doxo uses Search Engine Optimization, Dark Patterns and hi-jacked logos to trick consumers into thinking that they are paying their bills at the authorized site of merchant, when if fact they are using Doxo, which tacks on unnecessary service fees and signs them up for an unwanted subscription service.

Doxo filed a motion to dismiss the complaint, which the Court denied, then it filed a motion to compel arbitration, which was also denied. Doxo has now appealed the arbitration ruling to the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, where it is pending resolution.
