Gary A. Praglin was born and raised in Los Angeles.  He has been a Plaintiffs’ lawyer for 38 years.  He earned his B.A. in English Literature from UCLA in 1978 and his J.D. from Southwestern University School of Law in Los Angeles in 1981.  Over the years, Gary has represented literally thousands of clients, sometimes second generations of the same family. 

Over his career, Gary has helped recover nearly one billion dollars in jury verdicts and settlements for his clients.  Many of Gary’s cases have been complex groundwater cases against corporate polluters, like Gary’s PG&E case, which became the subject of the hit movie Erin Brockovich.  Gary worked full time, start to finish, on all of the PG&E cases, spanning more than 10 years.  Gary has handled numerous mass tort cases over the past 25 years.  Besides environmental, other notable areas of practice have been Tobacco litigation, auto accidents, product liability and medical malpractice.  Before coming to CPM, Gary was a partner at a prominent Los Angeles plaintiffs litigation firm for 36 years.

He has served in leadership on Steering Committees past and present.  In the past, he has served on the Plaintiff’s Steering Committee in the Coordinated Yamaha Rhino Litigation.  Currently, he is on the Plaintiff’s Steering Committee for the Porter Ranch gas explosion litigation against SoCalGas and Sempra Energy in Los Angeles, which arises out of the largest release of methane into the environment in history.

Gary has been recognized by his peers for his trial work.  He is a past nominee for Trial Lawyer of the Year by Trial Lawyers for Public Justice for his work on the PG&E litigation.  He has also been a frequent public speaker on topics related to groundwater contamination and environmental litigation.  He has spoken before the California State Legislature, LA City Schools, Southwestern University School of Law and various continuing legal education programs over the years.

When Gary is not working, he enjoys spending time with his wife, two boys and two dogs.

Community/Civic Activities

Gary believes in giving back.  Over the years, he has handled numerous Pro Bono cases to improve the lives of others.  Notable Pro Bono cases have been:

  • An adoption
  • Re-admission of a med-student to medical school, allowing him to become a doctor
  • Helping a young couple sue and recover against a slumlord on a mold issue

He is an active supporter and fund raiser for the following charities:
