Jordanna Thigpen is a principal at Cotchett, Pitre & McCarthy, where she focuses on complex business litigation, securities cases, antitrust and intellectual property.
Ms. Thigpen received her B.A. in U.S. History from the University of California at Davis and earned her J.D. at the University of San Francisco School of Law. At USF, she was a founding member of the USF Chapter of the Equal Justice Society, served as Vice President of the Student Bar Association, and received the Edward J. McFetridge Award for Excellence in Advocacy.
After law school, Ms. Thigpen clerked for the Honorable Ronald Evans Quidachay in the San Francisco Superior Court’s Law and Motion Department.
In 2004, the San Francisco Board of Supervisors appointed her to the San Francisco Small Business Commission, and in 2006, her fellow Commissioners elected her to serve as President. In 2008 she was named Small Business Advocate of the Year by the San Francisco Small Business Network.
From 2006-2008, Ms. Thigpen served as Deputy Director of the San Francisco Taxi Commission. In 2008, Mayor Gavin Newsom appointed her to serve as the Commission's Executive Director. During her tenure at the Taxi Commission, Ms. Thigpen established the administration of the City's historic hybrid taxi legislation, and successfully prosecuted dozens of individuals accused of misusing City permits and exploiting the San Francisco taxi industry. In Taxi Commission v. Union Cab, Ms. Thigpen's work as lead attorney secured the closure of a taxi company accused of defrauding several dozen victims. In 2009, she oversaw a merger of the Taxi Commission with the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency and co-authored newly enacted Division II, Article 1100 of the San Francisco Transportation Code.
Ms. Thigpen continues to be active in community affairs. She volunteers for VisualAid, a nonprofit providing resources for artists with life-threatening illnesses, and frequently serves as an advising attorney and volunteer judge for Moot Court competitions at local educational institutions.
