Niki B. Okcu

Niki B. Okcu is a principal at Cotchett, Pitre & McCarthy. Her practice focuses on products liability, business disputes, and consumer protection cases. Ms. Okcu joined the firm in 2002 as a law clerk and joined full time in 2003 after graduating from law school.

Ms. Okcu works extensively in the mass torts area and specializes primarily on product and other types of catastrophic injury cases. She has represented individuals in product liability actions involving injuries resulting from defective pharmaceutical products including Vioxx, Bextra, Digitek and ReNu with MoistureLoc.

Ms. Okcu is committed to pro bono work. She is currently representing an eighty-nine year old widow along with the Legal Aid Society of San Mateo County in a financial elder abuse case against various mortgage lenders and servicers.

Ms. Okcu also volunteers her time for the Shelter Network Legal Clinic, a program which is staffed by attorneys from the San Mateo County Private Defender Program, the Legal Aid Society of San Mateo County, and the San Mateo County Family Law Facilitator’s Office, and which provides pro bono legal services to the residents of Shelter Network.

Ms. Okcu has experience in every level of state and federal litigation, including jury trials, law and motion practice, depositions and mediation. In 2009, Ms. Okcu was named a Northern California Super Lawyers Rising Star, which honors attorneys practicing under the age of 40. No more than 2.5 percent of the lawyers practicing in the state are selected for this recognition.

Ms. Okcu received her B.A. in Political Science from the University of California, Santa Cruz, where she graduated with honors. She earned her J.D. at Santa Clara University School of Law. At Santa Clara, she was a founding board member of the Santa Clara Journal of International Law and also served as an articles editor for the Journal.

Ms. Okcu is a board member of the San Mateo County Trial Lawyers Association. She also is a member of the San Mateo County Bar Association, California Women Lawyers, San Mateo County Barristers and Consumer Attorneys of California. Ms. Okcu is admitted to the California Bar. She is admitted to practice before the California Supreme Court, Court of Appeals and United States District Court for the Northern and Central and Southern Districts of California.
